Rachoni, Village of Thassos
Rachoni, Villages of Thasos
Rachoni is a mountainous village at the northwestern part of Thassos. It is 15km far from Limenas and 4km from the shore. It has approximately 400 habitants who are occupied with olive production, apiculture and fishery. It is said that the olive groves grown at the foothills are over 900 years old.
Just a few steps before entering the village you will discover the temple of Madonna’s Dormition. The church was built in the 19th century under planes from where a spring provides running water. It celebrates on the 15th of August when the local women prepare choice viands (meat and wheat) distributing it after the Divine Service.
