Agios Georgios, Villages of Thasos
The village of Agios Georgios is located at the northwestern part of the island opposite Rachoni. Its distance from the centre of Thassos and Rahoni is 14km and 1km respectively. Between the two villages there is the church of Holy Mary’s Dormition.
The village was built at a higher spot in the past but it was evacuated and the few remaining habitants moved to the current location.
In Agios Georgios the founder of the contemporary Egyptian State, Mehmet Ali spent most of his childhood.

Astris, Villages of Thasos
It is about a rural dwelling with houses made of stone that was founded and constructed by residents of Theologos for their agricultural affairs. It took its term from the magnificent fair weathers and its constellations during night. It is located at the southern part of Thassos. It is 45 km and 7km far from Limenas and Poto correspondingly.
In the area there are the beaches of Ai Vasilis, Babouri, Amdela, Salonikios and the natural swimming pool called Giola. Opposite Astris there is the isle of Panagia. Rumor has it that it was the home of Sirens who where bewitching by their ode the sailors. The area is advisable and promising for fishing!

Kallirachi, Village of Thassos

Kallirachi, Villages of Thassos
Kallirachi is a big village at the western side of Thassos offering a view of Kavala City. It is 24 km far from Limenas and 2.5km from Skala Kallirahi. It was build in 1750 by the inhabitants of Kakirachi after its destruction from pirates. Its 600 dwellers are occupied with tourism, agriculture and fishery.
Kallirachi has narrow alleys with traditionally built houses where serenity and tranquility dominates. A folk faucet adorns the central square. In the area there are many bridges made of stone while one lane leads to Kakirahi and Metamorfosi.
Visit the folkloric museum of Kallirachi, in a mansion-house dating back from 1800, which has been restored according to the lifestyle of the local people during the past century. The exhibition includes traditional tools, needlework, weaving art and photographs.

Kastro, Village of Thassos

Kastro, Villages of Thasos
Kastro is the oldest dwelling of the island and it is located in the northeastern side of Limenaria in a distance of 12km. Its altitude is 500m and it is not visible from the down country. It was named after the ruins of an existing castle, whose wall was constructed in 1403. Since 1905, it began its evacuation when the dweller were transferred to the coastal area. an During the last few years, its houses are being renovated by owners and used as cottages.
In the village there is the church of Saint Athanasios which was built in 1804, in 40 days by the respective permission of the Sultan. For its construction the whole village had provided assistance and there were used stones from the wall of the castle. The Divine Service takes place every last Saturday of a month and it celebrates on the 18th of January.
It is worthwhile mentioning that the castle has been characterized as historical monument after ministerial resolution in 1880. The road to the castle is earth and it is recommended that you use a four-engined vehicle or a jeep.
